Summer 2020

2020 has been very challenging for many businesses and individuals who are based in Morzine. And, as Winter approaches there is still a great deal of uncertainty and trepidation. Nobody knows what is going to happen and so trying to plan for Summer 2021 is proving incredibly difficult.
The Portes du Soleil is a tourist destination with some of the Worlds best mountain biking on our doorstep so when Governments announced quarantine restrictions in June we had all our bike bookings cancelled until mid July. It was only when this was lifted that Morzine returned to its usual buzzing self. The resort was busier than ever, the trails were in great condition and as always the weather was fantastic. Unfortunately this was short lived as a fresh quarantine came in and the tourists disappeared. With these restrictions came the news that the World Cup Downhill due to take place at the end of the season was to be cancelled and with it the lifts were no longer going to stay open continuously throughout September. Most people had resigned themselves to the fact the season was to be cut short but once the quarantine was in place it felt like somebody had turned a light off.
I guess considering the seriousness of the pandemic we should be grateful that we got any summer business at all. The French Government really helped with their 50€ cycling scheme to get peoples’ bikes repaired. We signed up and this certainly helped our shop during the quieter times.
Looking ahead to next Summer we can only try and be positive and hope things become more normal. We have sold all our Nukeproof enduro bikes so look forward to having a new fleet for next year. We are in the process of updating our website so will let you know when you are able to book for Summer 2021.
Thankyou to everybody who had booked with us for this year and managed to get out and for those people whio had to roll their bookings over to 2021 we really appreciate you being so understanding and supportive. Once again a huge thankyou to Lee, Matt and Jonas for their professsionalism and dedication, particularly this summer when there wasn’t the same amount of work available as in previous years. It was lovely to see Jimmy make an appearance and cheers Mikey for the bike washing duties.
Let’s hope everyone who has a booking for 2021 can travel and enjoy all that Morzine and the Portes du Soleil has to offer. We look forward to seeing you in the shop next Summer and if there is anything we can help you with just drop me a line, tim@toricomorzine.com or give me a ring, 0033 607949868.
Take care and stay safe. Tim
